Graduate Job Advice - Where to go from here

Why graduates lose out when competing IT positions

The unfortunate truth is that graduates are loosing out when it comes to competing for IT positions within a company, although no-one likes to undermine how much work goes into becoming a graduate with a university degree, the facts are that although you gain skills in many varied areas of IT such as Database's, Networking, Web design, programming, these are all very different areas within the real world of IT positions available. At university you don't work to a goal of Industry certification so when you come to find work in the real world of competing IT workers many who already hold some accreditation will get opportunities in front graduates your worth to a company is undermined by your inability to prove the skills that matter directly to the company such as there network administration without proven skills on Microsoft when nearly every company has some integrated Microsoft technologies from Desktop's & software application to the there Server technologies and databases, does it not make perfect sense to have accreditation to prove your competence and skills on the technologies that matter to a company?

graduate job advice

Go back a few years and the positions available to graduates where slightly more plentiful as companies would employ on the basis of that person having good varied skills and then spend on them to obtain qualifications that are directly relevant for there companies support for instance how can you administrate a Microsoft Exchange Server or (Company E-mail) when you have not been training on how to administrate it in the first place. Now companies don't have to spend the time and money on new employees as many people are certifying themselves professionally through the wealth of IT training providers in the uk . But all is not lost far from it with a background that would have covered many different areas of IT this gives you a real opportunity to find out exactly where within IT you would like to work, as well as that you have a good background making obtaining the actual certification in question such as the MCSE or CCNA for instance much more obtainable, without a good understanding of computers many in-depth professionals certification can be a challenge to anyone that has not been either involved with computer.
